Poem: Since Hana Moved Away created by: Judith ViorstThe tires on my bike are flat.
The sky is grouchy gray. At least it sure feels like that Since Hanna moved away. Chocolate ice cream tastes like prunes. December's come to stay. They've taken back the Mays and Junes Since Hanna moved away. Flowers smell like halibut. Velvet feels like hay. Every handsome dog's a mutt Since Hanna moved away. Nothing's fun to laugh about. Nothing's fun to play. They call me, but I won't come out Since Hanna moved away. |
About The PoemPurpose Of Poem: She is getting across the message of what people think about when they have lost a friend and trying to survive through it.
Why I chose the Poem: It looked like a really nice poem and it was a good representation of somebody surviving something in this case a friend moving away Type of poem and explanation of techniques: It goes A, B, A, B and the 1st line rhymes with the 3rd line and the 2nd line rhymes with the 4th line and that repeats itself and it is a quatrain poem because it has 4 lines for each paragraph. Lastly it uses repetition. |
Poem: Surviving The Wild created by: Irish TennentFly high bird, fly high
away from man's lead death. Your feathers scorched from bullets, as you gasp your last breath. Run fox run, your freedom depends on your speed, as the hunters close in, they do not care how you bleed. Burrow, rabbit, burrow dig as deep as you can. The small beady eyes and ferrets teeth, you cannot hide from man. Swim, whale, swim away from the sharp harpoon, no peace for you until the water is stained red instead of blue. They call it sport, but to an animal, or bird trying to survive. Life is hard enough, just to live. |
About the PoemPurpose Of Poem: To show how the animals feel about hunters and poachers and how they react. And shows how bad animals have to live.
Why I chose the Poem: I chose this poem because it was different from a person's point a view it is from an animals. And it showed good representation of what survival for animals is. Type of poem and explanation of techniques: It is another A, B, A, B poem and it uses animals to make its point on survival |

At an Aztec temples opening day, We priest would please the gods this way. Hoards of enemies we'd slay, Mass sacrifice. To win at war, make crops grow more, To cure our kids when ill. The sun to shine, this song to rhyme, More victims we must kill. Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! You won't survive! You won't survive! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ain't staying alive! Ain't staying alive! Yeahhh! With scarifice, we priest appease, Our gods each powerful big cheese. Lets hear it for your favourits please! Haaa! We're doing it for Toci, the Aztec goddess of the earth's heart, We're doing it for Chantigo, goddess who makes volcanoes start. We're doing it for Itzli, the goddess of stone knives.
